Workshops, readings, conferences, and other news

Boat to Nowhere Workshops (November 16 – 17, 2019)

Beginnings: set up your story on the first few pages by painting the one scene that puts your story in motion.

Tension: create scenes that will leave your readers sitting on the edge of their seats.

Creating the Unexpected: go beyond the expected, the traditional, the stale. Create something memorable.

The beginning is the most important part of the work.

September 15, 2019 – Deepest Condolences

Sandra Lynn Carpenter, writer, lover of life, photographer, artist, explorer, and friend, you will be missed. I send my deepest condolences to your family and closest loved ones during this time of sorrow.

Everyone must leave something behind when he dies, my grandfather said. A child or a book or a painting or a house or a wall built or a pair of shoes made. Or a garden planted. Something your hand touched some way so your soul has somewhere to go when you die, and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, you’re there.

May 23, 2018  –I will be taking part in and leading a session in a Query Workshop in Uppsala, organized by and for members of the Stockholm Writers Group. Topics include Pitching, Blurbs, Synopsis, Query Letters, and Agents.

If a story is in you, it has got to come out.
